Speech-language pathologists are one big step closer to having Specialty Board Recognition in Swallowing and Swallowing Disorders. An initial face-to-face meeting of the Inaugural Specialty Board was held at the ASHA National Office February 9 and 10. The board comprises 12 Division 13 affiliates and one consumer member: Bonnie Martin-Harris, Chair; Maureen Lefton-Greif, Vice-Chair, Joan Arvedson, Caryn Easterling, Susan Langmore, Jeri Logemann, Linda Mackay, Adrienne Perlman, Jo Puntil, JoAnne Robbins, Joan Justine Shepard, Barbara Sonies, and Marty Mash. The goal of this meeting was to complete an Operational Manual for the Specialty Board on Swallowing and Swallowing Disorders that establishes the policies and procedures of the Board and to refine and clarify the process for granting the designation of Board Recognized Specialist in Swallowing and Swallowing Disorders (BRS-S).
