The goal of the dysphagia course at the University of Arizona is to prepare students for entry into a supervised clinical practicum in dysphagia. The students at our university have the opportunity to complete supervised practical work with dysphagia populations in hospital and residential care facility settings throughout the local community. However, students need to build their clinical skills from a strong clinical science foundation. Thus, I tell students that the course prepares them very well to enter into supervised clinical settings where they begin to build the necessary clinical skills required for this area of practice. What does a strong clinical science foundation in dysph-agia mean to me? Upon completion of our 3-credit course in dysphagia, students are expected to be able to:
