The program committee has developed an innovative and exciting program for the upcoming ASHA in Atlanta, this November. We have invited sessions, and there have been outstanding contributions from the membership. Some (although not all) of the sessions are listed below.
Our focus for this year was on the relationship between respiration and swallowing. There are two Short Courses on this topic, one course focusing on adults and the other on infants.
There are some very exciting seminars at this year’s Convention. Some of these sessions include:
As speech-language pathologist are active in the diagnosis and treatment of dysphagia, we must negotiate with physicians, surgeons, hospital administrators, insurance companies, and HMOs. We negotiate for time, equipment, support, and salaries. A keynote speaker for the Convention will be Chris Laubach who will speak on “Negotiating Successful Agreements.” Mr. Laubach is the president of the Center for Management Programs in Agoura Hills, CA, which has conducted over 450 negotiation-training seminars exclusively for health care executives. He has personally trained more than 6,000 health care professionals in the general process of negotiation. Following Mr. Laubach’s presentation, there will be a breakout session on “Negotiating for a Comprehensive Swallowing Program” led by Jeri Logemann, Bonnie MartinHarris, and Lisa Newman.
