Season's greetings from a non-seasonal part of the country. Actually, Naples is perhaps the last of Florida that has a season, whereas the rest of the nation awaits the changing of the leaves, we await the changing of hotel rates.
In this issue we bid farewell to Susan Langmore, our Coordinator for the last 3 years. Her moderate and sensible guidance will be long remembered. Since she is the official godmother of Fiberoptic Endoscopic Evaluation of Swallowing (FEES), we have placed the focus of this issue on that diagnostic procedure. I recall meeting her for the first time in Baltimore at Johns Hopkins Symposium on Dysphagia in 1992. She asked me what I thought of FEES and I am sure that I replied that I was very much in favor of fees, for without fees how would we be able to support our families? I never did get the red wine stains out of my favorite polyester leisure suit. A year later when I took her Short Course in Tampa, Florida, she made me sit in the back of the room. This technique has grown in use, and is now an accepted diagnostic instrumental procedure. In this issue the proposed ASHA position statement on FEES specialty certification is published for initial peer review. Please see form at the end of this issue.
